Home Learning Tasks

Friday 27th March

Here is your work for today. Remember to look at your timetable, which is in your packs. You can do your work in your workbooks or on teams. If you do it in your workbook, try to share it with your teacher by taking a photo and putting it on teams.

We are expecting you to complete the following tasks:

  • Look at the picture that shows how to calculate the area of shapes. Complete the questions for today in your Maths workbook. The questions are further down on this page called ‘Friday 27th March Area’. Choose the correct challenge for you. If you are not sure which to do, ask your teacher on Teams. * is Bronze. ** is Silver.  *** is Gold. The answers are with the questions too. Remember to find the area, you need to do length x width. The photo below on Thursday's learning should help
  • 20 minutes on Times Table Rockstars.
  • Grammar – To be able to use semi-colons in sentences. Use the power point to help you and then complete the sheets. The power point is further down on this page.
  • English - To write your first draft of your story – remember to highlight 3/4 and 5/6 words. Think about your sentence structures, sentence openers and paragraphs.
  • Spelling: Write a mini story using your spelling list.
  • Read for 15 minutes and complete any outstanding AR tests.
  • Complete these questions. Remember to use ‘Tommy’s Little Battle – Part 1’ as your text to help you.

1. Who do you think the Nark really is, a monster, ghost or Tommy’s cat? Draw your answer and list three reasons why you think this.

4. What do you think will happen next?

  • Start creating your DT funfair model – remember to get photographs as your model takes place.

  • Look at the pictures that show how to calculate the perimeter of shapes. Complete the questions for today in your Maths workbook. The questions are further down on this page called ‘Thursday 26th March Perimeter’. Choose the correct challenge for you. If you are not sure which to do, ask your teacher on Teams. * is Bronze. ** is Silver.  *** is Gold. The answers are with the questions too.

  • 20 minutes on Times Table Rockstars.
  • English - Look at the power point. Plan your writing task using the boxing up grid (which you can draw in your book if you wish).
  • Spelling: Write sentences using your spellings.
  • Complete these questions. Remember to use ‘Tommy’s Little Battle – Part 1’ as your text to help you.
  1. Do you think we will read the complete poem today?
  2. Where is Tommy during this poem, the kitchen, the bathroom or his bedroom? How do you know?
  3. When Tommy woke up, did he do so quickly or slowly? Which line in verse 2 tells us this?
  4. What does Tommy do in verse 5 that suggests he is scared?
  5. Do you think Tommy like sports? Draw and label two things that suggest this.
  6. In which verse does the poet change Tommy’s name to ‘Tom’? What does this tell us about Tommy’s character?
  • Create your own parachutes. What do you notice? What forces are acting upon the parachute? Which material makes the best parachute? Why?

Wednesday 25th March

Here is your work for today. Remember to look at your timetable, which is in your packs. You can do your work in your workbooks or on teams. If you do it in your workbook, try to share it with your teacher by taking a photo and putting it on teams.

We are expecting you to complete the following tasks:

  • Look at the pictures from yesterday. They show you how to round numbers and decimals. Complete the questions for today in your Maths workbook. The questions are further down on this page called ‘Wednesday 25th March Maths Qs’.
  • 20 minutes on Times Table Rockstars.
  • Grammar: Look at the inverted commas power point – complete the inverted commas sheet and then try the quiz. Top tip –inverted commas go around the part of the sentence that is being spoken. Do not use the word ‘said’.  The power point and sheets are further down on this page.
  • Spelling: use look, cover, write and check to practice your spellings. Same spellings as yesterday.
  • Writing – Edit and improve your writing from yesterday. Remember to focus on sentence openers, yr3/4 and 5/6 words, interesting vocabulary and chose your audience carefully. Idea: could you post your story to a local care home? Or elderly relative?
  • Read ‘Tommy’s Little Battle Part 1’, which is in your pack, and answer the following questions in your workbook or on teams in the ‘Reading’ channel.
  1. What do you think the main character will be like? Why?
  2. What do you think a ‘little battle’ might be?
  3. This poem is narrated. What job does a narrator do?
  4. How many verses does this narrated poem have?
  5. Underline the words that rhyme that show this is a poem rather than a story.
  • Read for 15 minutes.
  • Start to build your fairground ride.
  • Keep fit and healthy by doing some activities on this card.

Tuesday 24th March

We are expecting you to complete the following tasks:

  • Look at the pictures that show you how to round numbers and decimals. Complete the questions for today in your Maths workbook. The questions are further down on this page called ‘Tuesday 24th March Maths Qs’.

  • 20 minutes on Times Table Rockstars
  • Spelling – spelling rule: identifying homophones - how many can you think of? What are their definitions?
  • Grammar: Relative clauses. Look at the power point and complete the first two worksheets. The power point is further down on this page.
  • Go on to http://www.pobble365.com/ and complete as many tasks as possible - remember to share your work with us on Teams.
  • Read ‘Tommy’s Little Battle Part 1’, which is in your pack, and answer the following questions in your workbook or on teams in the ‘Reading’ channel.
  1. Which words tell us that verses 3 and 4 are noisy?
  2. Which of these words from the answers to question 1, is a nonsense word?
  3. ‘Destruction’, ‘destroyer’ and ‘destructive’ all have the same root word. What is it?
  4. Write an example of a simile from the text.
  5. Read line 1 out loud. Did you read it quickly or slowly? Why?
  6. What helped you make this decision?
  7. Why do you think this idea is repeated in verse 6?
  8. Look at the faces below.

    

  1. Which do you think is Tommy, which is Tom and which is Thomas? Why?
  2. Highlight the word ‘commence’ in the final verse. Do you think it means ‘to start’ or ‘to end’?
  • Read for a minimum of 15 minutes and to take your AR quizzes when you complete your book.
  • Start to gather resources for your fairground ride.
  • ICT – scratch Home Learning Improving the Game: Children are challenged to design a new game for the first game, an additional level or additional features. Algorithms can be written on paper or designed on the Scratch application at home, via the Internet or free software download.

We are expecting you to complete the following tasks:

  • Arithmetic questions - try and do test 1 and 2 in 20 minutes and mark them. The answers are on a link at the bottom of this page.
  • Multiplication square - try and complete this in 5 minutes.
  • 25 minutes on Times Table Rockstars
  • To complete the worksheet ‘Using a range of connectives’. Remember to write your answers on teams (either in files or with a photo) or one note. There is a power point to help you.
  • Go on to http://www.pobble365.com/ and complete as many tasks as possible - remember to share your work with us on Teams.
  • Continue your handwriting. You have the words to copy in your pack. Remember to do 3 lines.
  • Read ‘Tommy’s Little Battle Part 1’, which is in your pack, and underline any vocabulary you are not sure of. Try and find the meaning of these words or discuss them on teams or with an adult at home.
  • Start planning how to create your fairground ride. There are ideas below.
