Y2 - Puffins
Welcome to Year 2 - Puffins' Class!
What a lovely start we have had to Year 2!
We started off Term 1 by completing some fact-finding activities about Puffins – the children have learnt so much! The children also painted some great pictures of Puffins and we have put them all together for an eye-catching display outside our classroom! There are some photos of our display at the bottom of this page so you can see how much work we created in our first two days as Year 2s!
The children love our new class name and we are getting into our new routines well. We are being extremely sensible with our hand washing throughout the day and are adapting well to the new changes we have had to introduce like eating our lunch in the classroom.
We sent the following information out to you in July about the adults that your children are working with in Year 2 but I know that not everyone will have seen it so here it is again.
Our names are Mrs Trevitt-Piercey, Miss Trevitt and Mrs Fletcher. We have all worked together before and we make a great team! We love teaching Year 2 because the children are old enough to start to become more independent in their learning at school and the topics that we have got planned this year are really exciting! Our first topic is ‘Beside the Sea’ and we will be linking our History and Geography to it as well as our English. It’s a lovely topic to start with and the Art work that we will be doing, the children will love!
So here is a little bit of information about us:
Hello, I’m Mrs Trevitt-Piercey and I am really excited about getting back to school properly in September. I love cycling and recently went for a long bike ride in some hills, that meant a LOT of climbing up the hills (which was hard work on a bike) but coming down was really fun! I like camping and spending time outdoors, my favourite thing is barbecuing (especially on the beach) and toasting marshmallows on a campfire! Yum!! I try to eat healthily most of the time but I LOVE cake and sweets!! I love teaching all subjects but my favourite is probably Maths, what is your favourite?
Hello, I’m Miss Trevitt and I am looking forward to seeing you all in September. I love going for walks especially on the beach and in the hills too. I love finding out about birds and so I am really glad we got to choose the name Puffins for our class. I have actually seen Puffins in real life as they were nesting close to where I was walking on the cliffs. I love chocolate, teddies and beautiful joined handwriting! What are your favourite things?
Hello, I’m Mrs Fletcher and I really enjoy working in Year 2 with Mrs Trevitt-Piercey and Miss Trevitt. I love going on long walks in Skegness, especially when I stop for an ice cream! I have recently got a kitten who is called Noodles. He is a bit naughty and has been eating lots of things in my house!
It has been really lovely getting to know the children and already we know that Puffins is a great class. The children really have adapted well to our routines and are working hard. They are showing us their best work and trying extremely hard.
We would like to say a big thank you for providing the children with trainers for PE and daily water bottles. Just a quick reminder that earrings do need to be removed by yourselves on the day that we have PE unless your child can remove their own. PE days are Tuesday and Friday.
We would really encourage home reading as much as possible – at least three times a week if possible. The difference that this makes to your child is amazing. Any reading practice helps with fluency, word recognition and your child’s understanding of the text. This comprehension is so important. They need to be able to understand the text as a whole and be able to answer questions that they are asked about it. Any questions that you can ask your child when you are reading with them will help to develop these comprehension skills that are so important to them.
Many thanks for your continued support,
The Year 2 team – Mrs Trevitt-Piercey, Miss Trevitt and Mrs Fletcher
